Guinevere
Pendragon
Composed between Spring MMXX and Fall MMXXIV. Recorded as What Was Winter settled in, MMXXIV.
For Guinevere, first Princess, then Queen, the extent of her days was simply to react with grace to the actions of the men in her life. It was a life full of wondrous sights, but always with a window to great suffering and strife, whether in the court intrigue or in the ripples of battles that could not avoid making their way to the castles in which she resided.
But though some choose to blame her, and her association with a young knight, for the downfall of the kingdom, the truth is far murkier. It is believed that Guinevere modeled a true love at all times - to her family, to her subjects, to her peers, to her husband the king. Some believe that even her love with Launcelot, illicit though it may have been, was as pure an expression of love - courtly, and carnal; noble, and earthly - as there ever has been. With Guinevere, we have more to imagine and surmise than to know.
