Invisible Oranges review!
Huge thanks to Colin Dempsey at Invisible Oranges!
“On their debut album, Am I in Trouble? honors avant-garde black metal from the early aughts. They tap into the unpredictability of its source material, and shift between genres on tracks. It’s a progressive-minded approach that cherry picks elements without dragging along their dead weight. As such, precise black metal riffs, crystal clear vocals, folk straight from The Shire, and even flamenco are all present on Spectrum.”

"...definitely operating in musical territory which – even some twenty years later – has yet to be fully explored, and thus still has a few surprises left to throw at us."

“I’m never sure whether one hit of Spectrum is enough. What I do know, though, is that I can feel the passion with which Wiener has embarked upon this journey, of one steady mind, and with help from friends, Spectrum makes me smile."
Thanks again to all Am I in Trouble? supporters!

Grug Listen Music review!
It's easy to assume a review by Grug might be a cute little gimmick, but I implore you to sit and read this one
While it is amusing and cute, it's also deeply poetic and moving, and genuinely moved me to being teary-eyed.

Black Metal Archives review!
Black Metal Archives seems determined to make me faint from blushing today.
Exceedingly high praise—
"I kid you not, when I say that before 2024 had turned into 2025, I already knew that it was, and is, going to take something spectacular to dethrone this as the BMA album of the year."

A snippet:
"If Steve Wiener’s objective with Spectrum was to capture the experimentative oeuvre of the avant-garde black metal bands, then he has without a doubt achieved his goal. However, Spectrum is far more than a black metal album. It does contain moments of extreme metal but it also draws from a whole range of influences. Ranging from moments of acoustic tranquillity to progressive enhancements to dark theatrics, Spectrum is an extremely successful experiment."

BLACK METAL ARCHIVES REVIEW
Black Metal Archives published a really entertaining and nice review / vinyl announcement today!
"The thing is, you cannot pin Am I in Trouble? down. Are there black metal elements? Yes, quite a few, but to call this black metal misses the target so much that it hits the barn door. There are folk influences littered throughout, driving metal, hard rock, guitar riffs that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Savatage record, Spanish guitar noodling, harmonies that belong on a Funkadelic track, and so many different and wildly varied styles of music, all in one sumptuous stew, that you will gorge yourself until you cannot gorge no more. Then go back begging for seconds anyway.
For those who know, Am I in Trouble? sound, at least to me, like what a black metal band would sound like if George Clinton decided to try his hand at black metal, and that’s probably the highest compliment I have ever paid anyone."

NEGATIVE WINGSPAN - CASSETTE RELEASE
NEGATIVE WINGSPAN - CASSETTE RELEASE
I am beyond ecstatic to announce that Am I in Trouble?'s debut album, Spectrum, will be released on cassette via Negative Wingspan.
Those of you who follow me (Steve) on social media know that I have been an avid fan of Negative Wingspan throughout 2024 since I first learned of them.
They have fantastic curatorial taste, with their 2024 releases including an incredibly diverse array of musical styles and genre:
Sallow Moth - Vial
Demon Sluice - Demo MMXXIV
Memorrhage - Anyo
Known Demise - Sick and Cold and Blue
Chipped Topaz - Faintly Glowing Skull
Not only do they carefully select only the finest of albums to release (this sounds like I'm bragging 😅, but I mean it about the albums I've mentioned above)— keeping their release roster trim and impeccable—their cassettes are beautifully designed; true keepsakes and treasures for music collectors.
Am I in Trouble? is THRILLED to have the opportunity to kick off the 2025 release roster for Negative Wingspan with Spectrum's release on January 3.
