When I was still studying jazz double bass at the Conservatory of Mainz, an insane idea hit me during the summer: why not record a solo album like so many of my double bass playing peers? I asked the permission of the school and was allowed access to a studio for the tracks with vocals with a grand piano and and a hallway and some room mics for the solo double bass performances.
I had wonderful help by my good friend Mihau “Catwalski” Kowalski (www.catwalski.com) who did engineering and some co-production. He who stayed for a total of 9 days at my 30 square meter apartment to record songs for his album with me on bass and this album here as well. Frank Brempel of Blue-In-Green Recordings Bonn (GER) https://www.blueingreen-recordings.de/, who mixed and mastered everything also added his lovely violin and strings on several tracks.
At that time I was madly in love and after the solo album was done, my chronic illness caught up with me also due to fatigue and I had to spend the Christmas Holidays, my birthday and New Years Eve in the closed ward.
After being released to the open ward I gifted my debut album to my doctors who loved it and in general I got really good responses from the general public but even after gifting on album to every one of the 40 people of the jazz department I didn’t hear one word of comment from them.
So I must deduct that it’s not a classic jazz album or very high level instrumental music (which I already knew) but me being emotional on this album might have made it accessible to many non-music students, so all kinds of people over time as I have experienced.
The album aternates between double bass solo tracks and complete songs, except for two they are all jazz standard interpretations. That counts as covers.
