Upon a castle, cold and grey,
Two star-crossed lovers came to pray.
To gods of old and deities new,
They pledged their love forever true.
On the ramparts hand in hand,
They gazed upon a foreign land.
But, from afar, the bells did ring
On order of the wicked king!
A peasant boy and princess fair
Was not a truly royal affair.
So he ordered cannons, all around,
To raze the castle to the ground!
His daughter and the boy deceased
Was better than a scandalous tryst.
And, thus, the ramparts were destroyed
As, arm in arm, the couple died.
The castle ruins are long since gone,
But this legend lingers on.
And now their love shall be eternal,
Their passion known and universal.
