CYCLOTHYMIA / Suicide Awareness Month
So, September is Suicide Awareness Month.
I thought I'd share a song from my upcoming album that I wrote about my own mental health, as well as some context about that. The video is from my live show at Char's Landing in Port Alberni.
I hope you like it.
In 2021 I was diagnosed with Cyclothymia.
This is, apparently, a "chronic, milder form of bipolar disorder".
To treat this, I take Sertraline daily - my current dose is 200mg.
This diagnosis and treatment, unquestionably, saved my life; as well as bringing new context to the ways in which I interact with the world.
While the challenges this brings are not gone - they are reduced and - at the very least - easier to deal with.
Most of the time.
While this isn't me saying that medication is for everyone and everyone should take it absolutely,
I am saying that reaching out and finding help is so critical. If you're struggling, reach out to someone, talk to a doctor.
Things can get better.
