“…Heat Relief is akin to being a frog slowly being boiled in a pot of water. He's an expert at slowly building ambience and tension, and his sci-fi cinematic soundscapes eventually hit you with a wallop.”

-Piet Levy, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Nicholas Elert works in a variety of styles that often fall under the umbrella of “Heavy”, since 2010 he has led a double life playing in various doom metal, post-rock, and experimental bands, while simultaneously producing soundtrack scores for indie films. In 2018 Elert began releasing music under his own name, seeking to coalesce the two lives into one. After years of working exclusively in film, he returns to the album format with Heat Relief, the first LP since the 2020 release Infinity Gate.

Heat Relief was initially composed as a live performance for an art therapy event at Mount Mary University. Utilizing modular synths and heavily manipulated guitar recordings, the music creates a lush electric atmosphere that is concurrently meditative and cathartic.

Recorded Live without overdubs on a 168 HP modular synthesizer, micro granny, and FX.

Written and recorded August-September 2024
