'Deformity Adrift: Reformed' is a re-imagined version of our newest album and it features:
-a dramatically different mix by the band
-about 50% new vocals
-newly added guest vocals by Brendan Sloan (Convulsing)
-fully re-amped guitars with tube & vintage solid state amps
-completely natural drum mix, panned in audience perspective
-stripped back sound design / samples
-a re-recorded version of 'Endstadium'
-a cover of 'Suction' by Godflesh (vinyl exclusive)
-alternative track sequencing
-entirely new album art by Paolo Girardi
-new band logo (and layout) by Kai Blackwell
It will be pressed on the most insane, meticulously hand-made vinyl you have ever seen. Take a look at Wax Vessel's FB or IG for some impressions. More details:
1) 300 bespoke Wax Vessel copies across 5 variants
(these will be pricey collectors' pieces)
2) open pre-order on audiophile, natural PVC vinyl
(at a regular price point)
3) 100 band/retail copies
(to be released once the records come out of the plant)
This is a one time only pressing, there will be no represses. WV's 300 unit runs usually sell extremely fast (often within literal seconds), so be quick!
So why are we doing this, you ask? Our intention was to present a more raw and personal, "in the room" version of the album, as a contrast to the massive sound design and production-elements of the original album mix.
Thus, 'Reformed' was born.
And because we're DIY die-hards, this version was mixed in-house at our Portland studio by guitarist Keith Merrow, who also lent his high-pitched, frostbitten voice to re-record half of the vocals.
The drums are now audience-panned and fully natural, to showcase the full dynamics of Paul Seidel's drumming and enhance the live feel of the remix.
For the guitar re-amps, we used some really unorthodox gear, like a late 80s Randall RG100ES, boosted by a Boss Metalzone, on one of the rhythm guitars.
We also re-recorded the interlude 'Endstadium', which was a Drone riff that was reversed and heavily obscured on the regular release. On 'Reformed', you can hear it in its original shape.
As a bonus track, we added a cover of the Godflesh deep cut 'Suction', which was mixed by the mastermind behind fellow TDW artist Choir. We cooked an amp during the bass recordings, RIP!
Last, but not least, the absolute maniac Paolo Girardi was commissioned to do the art for the Death Metal vibes and Kai Blackwell blessed the whole thing with an outstanding layout and grim, new Nightmarer logo.
We took what started out as an idea for a digital exclusive very, very far and it should be obvious that we really went above and beyond with it. We basically made this album twice, to present you two very different sides of the band.
Wax Vessel is an artist first label and all profits go the band, which obviously aligns greatly with our DIY ethics. We can't thank them enough for their dedication and all the hard work they put into this release.
