In 2001, Jared (my husband and now guitarist for Hollow Howl) visited Europe. Our flight departed Newark Airport on October 11, 2001 and we stayed through early January.
I made this photograph while we traveled through southeastern coastal Spain. I used my Nikon FM2 with Ilford Delta 400 film. The coarse black line around the photograph’s edge is from the filed out negative carrier that I used when printing my work at that time.
We spent time in Portugal and Spain, and then Hungary and Poland, absorbing the culture of live music, performance, and handicrafts of those places. Listen closely to hear these influences in our music today. Look closely at the details of our albums — we often include elements of Eastern European embroidery and textiles passed down to us from our families.
