The Dusklands
Wayfarer
I've seen a pale horse and a rider I seen him bury his head in the sand I've Seen the preacher not a poor man Two fresh laid graves, on one plot of land There's a cross upon the mantletop And a rifle sitting just below Neither one has kept the darkness away, but hell maybe one will take them home Yeah, we’ll see When that horseman rides my way And finds me alone Plant no cross, and dig no grave These plains I’ll make my home Come the Riders of the setting sun And you've drawn your line I spill my blood in the sand, and I I call it mine, call it mine When that horseman rides my way And finds me alone Plant no cross, and dig no grave These plains I’ll make my home In my eyes, I’ve seen There’s nothing left In the flat fields They carry me To my Death In my dreams they offer me Eternal Rest I’ve been long for the Nothingness

Perdition's Crossing - featuring David Eugene Edwards
Wayfarer
The golden fields I claim as home Until the preacher come, The sun I called my own Say you know, know well Set down the sun, all let down, undone On the plains that I was born I would stake them down and take them I will make them my own I’ve been a rider long enough I know the world is there to fuck and kill and make it my throne Oh hear me father I repent Please hear me father I need wash away my sins I’ve learned nothing, no not ever Never seen, I never heard Behind the fire Is the flood Beyond the night Oh,when come the night Oh hear me father I repent Before the night has come I beg your forgiveness You doubt In the nothing your eyes shine well All the eyes of the dream Of the world’s only spell And I cast myself, into the flame Hear the thunder roar See it risen from the mud (Perdition’s son, I know) Hear how the nightfire Listens to the flood (Into the lake I’ll walk) Their horses are mighty In that setting sun (Four Riders against the Dawn) Are you the last flame in the shadow, Cast a listening sun Horseman - you ride alone Oh hear me father I repent Before the Riders come I know what must be done” (Will I ever see the sun) Begone, oh son (Will I ever) Learn your soul (Ride again) On the way (No, not ever) Out on a Rail horse run (It is done) Beyond the throne Golden fields have turned to stone

Black Roses & Early Graves
Wayfarer
Preacher man told me We gave it all to see A world of iron A hell of grey I walk these fields in your name With black roses for your grave The one thing that I love They took away from me And when the gunmen ride at sunset I know I’ll never be the same And when death stands at my doorstep I’ll ride out in your name If I were To ride on through The crossroads of your soul What would I have known So they took you for a ride Another conscience, laid aside Another dreamer, lost to dream Six gun man - is death your trade? Do know now what you’ve made Have you plead with god To clear your name She stood once on these fields With a stillness I could see A memory I hold on Only death can take from me The night has grown too late to turn back So show me to my early grave If I were To offer you A Black Rose on your grave Would you come back home So they take another life Another lover left behind Another life left unredeemed Im tearing apart at the soul (I never was) And peeling the past from the walls (one who could) worry that you were afraid (understand the ways of loss) By god I’ll kill them all (I’ve never known) I’ve carried the pain (to live in a world without) And I’ll carry your name to the grave (Is this the end of life) I’m bleeding your name from my flesh (Is this the end of time) And now I am sinking down (They took away) The face of the bastards in dreams (They took away all we knew) I’ll rain hell down (I will never forget) Please don’t let it go (I will never) One more black rose

Casey's Last Ride - featuring Kelly Schilling
Wayfarer
Casey joins the hollow sound of silent people walking down The stairway to the subway in the shadows down below Following their footsteps through the neon-darkened corridors Of silent desperation, never speakin' to a soul The poison air he's breathin' has the dirty smell of dyin' 'Cause it's never seen the sunshine and it's never felt the rain But Casey minds the arrows and ignores the fatal echoes - Of the clickin' of the turnstiles and the rattle of his chains Oh! she said, casey it’s been so long since I’ve seen you! Here she said, just a kiss to make a body smile! See she said, I’ve put on new stockings just to please you! Lord! she said, casey can you only stay a while? Casey leaves the underground and stops inside the Golden Crown For something wet to wipe away the chill that's on his bone Seeing his reflection in the lives of all the lonely men Who reach for anything they can to keep from goin' home Standin' in the corner, Casey drinks his pint of bitter Never glancing in the mirror at the people passing by Then he stumbles as he's leaving and he wonders if the reason Is the beer that's in his belly or the tear that's in his eye Oh! she said, I suppose you seldom think about me, Now she said, now that you’ve a fam’ly of your own; Still she said, it’s so blessed good to feel your body! Lord! she said, Casey it’s a shame to be alone!

Fell Spur
Wayfarer
The voice of night had called on me Down unto the earthly plane, A tale ill tell The voice of night I heard it say The four have come, And they have bade upon thee - We alone We, no other We alone Have rode with Death He alone, The Fell Spur Rider He alone, the end of days The voice of night has called on me The fear it gripped me where I lay The night grows late again The voice of night it now did say The plains will war and burn and starve away, as we had made We alone We, no other We alone Have rode with Death He alone, The Fell Spur Rider He alone, the end of days The voice of night it called on me They chased down the sun And ride my way

Grey Country - featuring Munly J Munly
Wayfarer
Am I, to fall away Envious of light, I have no sway The thaw of a cold heart I tear away, I Lower me down A mournful gaze is cast In my Direction One last ride By light of day Another has come to pass under my discretion, and I One last penance I must pay Are these the last words Relayed unto my sons When they look, what will they see? Blood upon blood am I To blame for this curse, I’ve laid down on me A sun in your hand, A light you keep for your own Which begs the question, What you know Which begs the question, Are you yourself prepared to beg? You’ve asked for so much And now you only want To hold your own To hold your own To hold your own (The Sun in my hand) To hold your own To hold your own (Blinding my dreams) To hold your own To hold your own (The world in my head) To hold your own To hold your own (I am grey country’s king) A world in your head, The plains you call your throne Which begs the question, Where you’ll go (the dusklands I ride) Which begs the question, Are you even questioning? (Here I hide) You’ve asked too much And now you’re desperate To hold your own A sun in your hand, A light you keep for your own Which begs the question, If you know (Here I will die) Which begs the question, Are you secure in what you’ve made? (in my country) You’ve nothing else left And now you only want To hold your own

Hollow Hearts On The Trail To Eden
Wayfarer
Came to a crossing I don’t know I try to leave those thoughts alone I try to carry weight I, I’ve never known I’ve tried to leave it all before Now I can go on Fate Or famine In my time without Do I belong (Winter’s come) I await Revival On Eden’s trail now (winter’s come) And I ride it out This hollow heart in time A cross to bear in silence Cannot let it weigh me down A better man than I might Know where the thread has gone But that is not my way And now I’ve come back home Betrayed Desires As my dreams cried out I bemoan (winter’s come) It’s blades And rifles Wielded by doubt Winter’s come And I lay me down Now I lain with doubt Now I’ve killed my crown Now I leave my love Nothing left undone Carried in my wake Buried with my name Carried in my wake (Carried in spite of my ways, in spite of my ways) Buried with my mistakes (Buried inside here I lay, inside here I stay) Carried in my wake (Carried in spite of my ways, in spite of my ways) Buried with my shame (Buried inside here I lay, inside here I stay) Carried in my wake (Carried in spite of my ways, in spite of my ways) Buried with my name (Buried inside here I lay, inside here I stay)

Prairies Of Babylon - featuring Midwife
Wayfarer
I’ll be here when you are gone No matter how you hold your gun No matter how you chase the sun I’ll be here when you are gone I’ll be here when you are gone No matter how you hold your gun No matter how you chase the sun The day is young as it is long You felt it fade You know there’s nothing left alone I’ve watched it die I’ve heard the prayers you bled for gone Before their eyes They’ll the see dawn of the horsemen come On the prairies of Babylon I’ll be here when you are gone

Wayfarer is a four-piece band from Denver, Colorado, founded in 2011. The band's music combines elements of black metal with Americana, gothic country, and Western musical traditions, a combination closely associated with the so-called "Denver Sound" — a loose scene of Denver-based bands drawing on both extreme metal and American folk/country influences.

Shane McCarthy (guitar, vocals) founded the project in 2011, initially conceived as an instrumental endeavor before shifting toward a black metal direction. Drummer Isaac Faulk joined in 2012, bassist Jamie Hansen in 2013, and guitarist Joe Strong-Truscelli in 2016, completing the band's current lineup. Members of Wayfarer are also involved in other Denver-area projects, including Blood Incantation, Stormkeep, and Lykotonon.

Wayfarer's debut album, Children of the Iron Age, was released in 2014, followed by Old Souls (2016), and World's Blood (2018). In 2020, the band released A Romance with Violence, which received wider recognition and appeared on several year-end lists. The band's fifth album, American Gothic, followed in 2023 via Profound Lore Records (North America) and Century Media Records (Europe), and marked the band's most extensive combination to date of black metal songwriting with Western and Americana instrumentation, including slide guitar,[GU1] [PS2]  and organ.

Over the years, Wayfarer has performed at festivals including Roadburn, Fire in the Mountains, and Northwest Terror Fest, and has toured across North America and Europe.

Wayfarer's upcoming album, Riders of the Setting Sun, is set for release on November 6th through Vesperian. The record represents a further shift in the band's sound: while earlier albums balanced black metal with Americana elements, Riders of the Setting Sun moves further into stripped-back, acoustic-driven Western songwriting. Several tracks feature acoustic guitar, harmonica, and restrained arrangements, with the album's darker, more atmospheric passages built around space rather than density.

The album includes guest appearances by David Eugene Edwards (16 Horsepower, Wovenhand) and Munly J Munly (Slim Cessna's Auto Club, Munly & the Lupercalians), both figures associated with the gothic Americana and "Denver Sound" tradition that has long informed Wayfarer's music.
