Joy is out! Some thoughts...

Nov 09, 2024 by Greg

Release day for Joy has come and gone. It’s always a strange feeling to release an album. This might have been the strangest for me, and I’ll explain why.

There’s a line by Camus somewhere (boy, we really need Camus right now) comparing the time required to create a work compared to the time a critic might spend on it. I think it’s something any artist can relate to. But, you put something out in the world, and then it’s instantly out of your control! That’s the deal. With Joy, I’ve never felt better about a release. I really love the songs and I love how it sounds. And I’m thrilled that the reviews have skewed positive, and every social media post / share with supportive words has been truly humbling. But this hasn’t been the norm for me. In the past, I’ve put too much emphasis on what others think; this is the first time I really felt able to say “fuck it” no matter what happens. Progress!

Otherwise, it’s been really neat to see how people interpret the lyrics! I hate talking about what they mean to me because of this exact thing: it’s more fun to see what your listeners take away!

Anyway, thanks again. We’ll have updates on physical editions in just a few weeks!!
