This album is about nostalgia and it's about human error. It's imperfect. A MESS.

I was inspired to listen to some styles of electronic music with fresh ears. In particular I was listening to techno from folks like Jeff Mills, Carl Cox and Richie Hawtin. I'm not saying this is a techno album by any means. I was however inspired to let some ideas ride a little longer, to experiment with a limited palette.

I was also listening to a lot of Future Sound of London, Meat Beat Manifesto and Underworld at the time. I've always had a love for "dance music" but I never really found my path into music specifically intended for dancing. Through out the process of making these tracks, I thought a lot about how I would lose myself in music as a teen. I would dance with my eyes closed to rid myself of anxiety and thrashed around as I desperately sought to escape my own thoughts.

The tools and my approach to technology were also a heavy influence on the outcome. This EP was recorded to Alesis hard disk recorders, though a SoundCraft Spirit Studio Lc, with hardware sequencers, modular synths, outboard effects and minimal editing. A humble studio even for 2002. It required sacrificing a lot of the flexibility I typically enjoy with a computer based workflow, so I had to exercise some long dormant creative muscles.

I'm pretty far outside my comfort zone on this one, so I hope you enjoy it.
