The Spiral arrives as Amity Ainsley's first release in nearly a year, her last appearance being the Amity/9000 Split with musician DCX9000 in October 2025, and marks her debut release through a label. Ainsley has built her catalog on restlessness. Across just over a year of independent output, she's moved from the lo-fi experimental electronic of Works '25, to the heavier electronic rock of Peripheral Works, to the atmospheric, genre-blurring contribution she brought to the Amity/9000 Split, a track listeners noted sat as comfortably in post-rock as it did in electronic music. That same instinct to cross boundaries rather than settle into one defines The Spiral. The four-track EP leans into Ainsley's experimental electronic foundation, built from beats, synths, guitar, and pads, aiming for immersive, mesmerizing soundscapes across its runtime. With song titles ranging from the introspective to the evocative, the EP suggests a more personal, reflective turn following a year of stylistic experimentation from the one-woman band.
