We seem to be at the cusp of a realization: that those of us alive today have been incredibly fortunate to exist during one of the most hospitable environmental periods in this planet's history. And we are bringing that period to an end. No telling how long the transition will take, but this is the context within which this album came to be.
At each particular point in time, the state of our environment/planet exists with some very specific qualities. The tracks on this album naturally embody some of those qualities, without any intention on my part. It's my own experiences that determine what these tracks say to me, and likewise for you.
I don't set out to make music about this or that. I shape some initial sound or texture that then asks for a different sound to act as a backdrop for it, or as a character to inhabit and move through the space that it creates.
This process goes back and forth until I feel that I have a complete, self-sufficient soundscape.
Finally, when the tracks are complete, I listen again and again to find what each of them evokes from within me personally. Only then is a title attached, as a sort of re-entry point, or a way to make it more personally resonant.
