The less you have to start the more that I will take from you The more support you need the less that I will care for you All that you have will be mine Surrounded by this poverty and failed society I have established my realm: queen of all that I survey Diamond City in the grime Here in the ruins I built my domain Soon everyone will know my name Give and take (from you to me) You give, I take (How it must be) Give and take You give, I take All around me I can see lives lived in poverty But I don't care as long as it is not affecting me Turn away and close the blind Behind these walls it is a very different life for me Inside this tower I can live a life of luxury Out of sight and out of mind Here in the ruins I raised myself up It's tough at the bottom but not at the top Give and take (from you to me) You give, I take (How it must be) Give and take You give, I take Acquisition of more wealth Confiscate it for myself All objections are ignored Give up your treasures for my hoard I'm just harvesting the land Submit and fill my grasping hands You are the fallen but see how I've risen I am deserving of all I've been given Give and take (from you to me) You give, I take (How it must be) Give and take You give, I take

Artifice is Carmine Rebellion's first full-length album. It is a dystopian science fiction concept album, telling a story about how AI, automation, and capitalism will combine to destroy society. It wasn’t supposed to come true quite as quickly as it has.
Conceived several years earlier, I actually abandoned work on the original version of Artifice when I started work on the first Carmine Rebellion EP, Manifesto. Having cleaned my palette somewhat with seven EP, I found myself better able to work out the kinks, replace the material that was just never going to work, and turn it into something I actually like.
It was originally serialised, with one track released every two weeks over a period of about 12 months. I was still working on the album during this time, having released the first track with about five or six more finished. Afterwards, I gave the whole thing a bit more of a polish to get it ready for this complete album release.
