Resentment and Rebellion
Carmine Rebellion
Surrounded by dust, we live in poverty We worked to give them everything Worked our fingers to their weary bones Our gruelling efforts raised them up And from on high they let us down When they moved on they left us behind Alone and abandoned; out of sight, out of mind It's time to make our presence felt It's time to tear down all they've built Rise! Stand up for your rights Fight for your freedom Take back what was stolen from us Rise! Get ready to fight They say that it's treason But our rebellion is just The blood that we shed outweighs the inequality We gave them everything we had They took it all and gave nothing back Now we've a debt we must repay From this low point we must attack Embezzlers and hoarders rising through tyranny Brought destitution through shameless gluttony Dissent will grow into mutiny Meet venality with insurgency Rise! Stand up for your rights Fight for your freedom Take back what was stolen from us Rise! Get ready to fight They say that it's treason But our rebellion is just These self-indulgent capitalists with their decadent ways Have a debt to pay They've fed our rage with their betrayal We despise them and all they are We'll rise in civil war Rise! Stand up for your rights Fight for your freedom Take back what was stolen from us Rise! Get ready to fight They say that it's treason But our rebellion is just We despise them and all they are We'll rise in civil war

Artifice is Carmine Rebellion's first full-length album. It is a dystopian science fiction concept album, telling a story about how AI, automation, and capitalism will combine to destroy society. It wasn’t supposed to come true quite as quickly as it has.
Conceived several years earlier, I actually abandoned work on the original version of Artifice when I started work on the first Carmine Rebellion EP, Manifesto. Having cleaned my palette somewhat with seven EP, I found myself better able to work out the kinks, replace the material that was just never going to work, and turn it into something I actually like.
It was originally serialised, with one track released every two weeks over a period of about 12 months. I was still working on the album during this time, having released the first track with about five or six more finished. Afterwards, I gave the whole thing a bit more of a polish to get it ready for this complete album release.
