Murder of the Mourning Dove
Corvus Corone
On weeping wings it flies alone
Winds of sorrow bear its song
This lonely journey it must face
Flying along the path of martyrs
Symbol of nostalgia put to death
A fate of which none deserve less
In frantic dreams I hear its call
Crossing the sky as raindrops fall
As I reach skyward and grace its wings
A feather descends and silence follows
Dreams of hope become nightmares of sorrow
As I witness the murder of the Mourning Dove
In your desolate wake
I do what I can to live without you
Fighting tears as I grieve
It's hard to believe you've gone away
I will tend to your grave
To ensure your memory stays with me
I will still sing your praise
Just as I had done while you breathed
In the darkest of times
I relied on your song to guide me
In the darkest of dreams
I never imagined you'd leave me
I will never let go
Of the brilliant light you gave me
I will never forgive
The ones who took that light from me
Time moves on even when you are gone
My soul weeps knowing I could do more
Time moves on at the cost of my tears
My soul weeps knowing you won't come back
Over and over again
I face the failures that have led to your departure
Poisoned by fear and regret
I am far too ashamed to face my reality
All that remains is a soul
Tormented and cold, so isolated
Desperately clawing at walls
That I know in my heart are unbreachable
Searching my memories in vain
To remember a time I could comfort you
And yet they still fade away
As your feathers descend in dreadful silence
Facing the nightmares again
Reliving the moment you were taken away
Silence answering my prayers
As I witness the murder of the Mourning Dove
