About Dave Painchaud

A commitment to change and living in whatever moment in which one finds one’s self, is and probably should be, a core tenet to pursuing artistic endeavors. My background is in jazz and in the alchemy of live performance, but the culture rolls on and right now - at this time - it seems right to go in a direction that challenges and hopefully uplifts listeners with something contemporary but that also meets the listener where they live. During a period when society seems to be addicted to the next hit of dopamine, I think there’s a reason and a need to provide work that will insist that people take a moment to stop… and simply take in something that might slow down the mental frenzy without compromising quality. There’s a narrow path in these dangerous times that we’ll need to traverse, between rejecting the dangers of technology while also demanding a better society and using the tools available to encourage more positive outcomes.

Can music do that? No, but it can do much more than most people suppose. Music, in its most effective use, lives in your headspace and helps you daydream. This isn’t a problem - it’s a tremendous positive force to the individual and to whole groups and populations. Our best ideas - the things that truly motivate all of us - the best part of ourselves - starts when we’re distracted. Music can help people get to that place - a still state of mind in which concentration and free thinking are at a peak - a condition which people are increasingly not allowing themselves to have. Once being there is a normal thing, humans have the wherewithal to make the sorts of decisions, without even fully realizing they’re doing so, that can change societies and make the world a better place. Grandiose? It can sound that way, but I’ve lived long enough to know that the arts and humanities increases our intelligence, raises our collective standards and makes for a more civil society. We all have to make our own contribution in this regard to whatever degree we can. I’m a musician, so I make music.
