Controlled From Space

Hello, my name is Garmin My job’s to help you get around My voice is rather charmin’ I give directions on the ground But you might wonder how it is I know exactly where you are When we’re out there driving on the highway in your fancy car I am controlled from space (Yes I’m controlled from space.) Laser beams from satellites that float across the sky I am controlled from space (Yes way out in outer space) If you were ever wondering, well you just found out why. You’re lying on the couch And you’re watching Jersey Shore You’ve got seven hundred channels But you wish you had some more When you switch to CNN So you can watch the news You never even give a thought To all the work I do I am controlled from space (Yes I’m controlled from space.) Laser beams from satellites that float across the sky I am controlled from space (Yes out in outer space) If you were ever wondering, well you just found out why. Laser-Guided Missles, GPS And unmanned army drones The garbage you watch on TV Even your cellular phone They’re all interconnected By metal objects in the sky So elegant and beautiful It almost makes me cry As I smash down all your buildings With my deadly laser ray Your tiny tanks they shoot at me And they probably will all day The mothership is guiding me From high above the planet And as long as she is overhead I’m invincible like granite (because) I am controlled from space (Yes I’m controlled from space.) Laser beams from spaceships flying way up in the sky I am controlled from space (Yes way out in outer space) The aliens are winning and now you’re all gonna die!

This album is a collection of songs written over the course of ten years, taking the listener (that's YOU!) on a meandering musical adventure through space and time.

2025 addendum: When I first started making music, I wanted to be like They Might Be Giants or Jonathan Coulton, writing songs that toed a line between silly and serious. I started playing accordion when I was 16 years old, which fit perfectly into this trajectory. Between 2007 and 2013, I wrote and recorded quite a few songs with lyrics. Many of these were shared with friends (and a few were even performed live on stage), but I found that I was more interested in focusing on instrumental and ambient music as my primary output, so the songs that ultimately became “The Edventure” mostly sat untouched in various folders for years.

In 2018, I decided to compile and release the best of these recordings as an album on Bandcamp. When I started putting my music on Ampwall, I initially chose not to include this album, since it’s not quite representative of the kind of music you’ll find in the rest of my discography. However, after talking with members of the Ampwall community, I changed my mind, since they’re still an important part of my journey as an artist. So here you go, Ampwall—The Edventure! I’m not a great singer, and these were recorded when I lacked proper equipment and mixing/mastering tools, but the songs have a certain charm and lighthearted attitude that will (hopefully) bring a smile to your face.
