Desolate The Clown
JJ Mickey
in the remains of a ghost town
wanders a lonely clown
and to him the sound
of laughter means nothing anymore
once a mining town
not safe to roam
empty caverns
mean empty homes
with a sad heart
behind a painted smile
when it fell apart
he chose to stay a while
he remembers the good times
when he'd gather them round
bring the people high and low
and let them know
I am the star keeper
the watchman of dreams
holding us all together
in this place of fraying seams
memory stains on the walls
where the rain seldom falls
and all of the howls at night
could not move his heart to fright
once a mining town
ruled by shovel and axe
now nothing left behind
by the people but their tracks
with a sad heart
behind a painted smile
when it fell apart
he chose to stay a while
he remembers the good times
when he'd gather them 'round
bring the people high and low
and let them know
I am the star keeper
the watchman of dreams
holding us all together
in this place of fraying seams
so our clown
keeps his head down
gives from his pocket
to the scrappy dogs
one day he'll feed ash to bones
as the world ends
and he is all alone
