THE LAB
Unscripted Soundscapes: The Art of Pure Musical Intuition
About THE LAB
Founded by pianist Marc Mennigmann and drummer Sven Kosakowski, THE LAB is a sanctuary for unrestrained creativity and artistic expression. Located in the heart of Germany, this unique studio is dedicated to capturing the essence of intuitive music, creating a space where musicians come together to explore sound without the constraints of the music business. Guided by Peter Erskine’s mantra, "Don’t play what you know, play what you don’t know," Marc and Sven invite fellow artists to join them in spontaneous sessions, where each note is a discovery, and every piece reflects a moment of collective inspiration.
Each recording session at THE LAB is meticulously reviewed to capture and release only the magic moments. From mixing and mastering to artwork and video, the process is entirely artist-driven. THE LAB's legacy began with “SAM” in 2012, featuring Julie Slick of the Adrian Belew Power Trio, evolving with “NOTOPIA” in 2015, where Mike Keneally and Peter Hammill joined the journey. Albums like Another Life, Yet Another Life, and Celebrating Life emerged from these explorations, celebrating the beauty of the moment and the art of music created purely for its own sake.
