My dear Frances,
What a mess! We’re really in the spotlight now! If it wasn’t enough that my family felt the need to play their silly parlour games, now Sir Arthur has shown our pictures to the whole country – he was kind to us, but I do feel sorry for the way he’s being spoken of. I also feel sorry for my family, their obsession with reputation has set them up to experience an exquisite pain while we wait for this to subside.
I endure my Father’s stern words and the harsh gaze of my Mother; I do so hate myself to know she must live with the acute shame of the spell we've cast. Oh, and I’ve been confined to my room! I am only able to send you this letter because my sister wants to help... She’s a quiet one, but I think she knows something.
You and I know that the price we pay is nothing compared to what might have been had we not listened to our friends and made good on their plan. We always knew this would happen, and this is exactly what they told us to prepare for. All we must now do is weather the storm so we can safely return to the garden and meet once more.
I’ll see you again - and maybe, in time, we’ll see them and leave this world together.
