The idea for this project slowly seeped from my grey matter after sifting through my never-ending pile of unused riffs. The riffs that haven't found their purpose yet. A sojourn for some as they patiently tarry within their conceived form, waiting to be heard. The oldest riff on this album is from a demo cassette I recorded on a 4-track in 1999.

I realized that the riffs that were speaking to me were more in the realm of doom. Slower paced, super heavy, fairly simplistic. I could see something taking shape, but the tunings were all over the place. Drop A, B standard, drop C, drop D. Perhaps you see where I'm going with this.

Each track would be its own tuning, ascending from A to D while transitioning from one to the next to make for a single listening experience. The original idea was to make this sound live and raw. Record everything in single takes, warts and all. Just two guitars, bass, and drums. But the demos were sounding…boring. The riffs were there, but it felt more like a foundation. There were no hooks and hardly any melodies. So the proverbial cartoon lightbulb above my head flicked on, and the chiptune element was introduced. That is when everything took shape and started to make more sense. It also created a tether to my previous chiptune metal album “From Beyond the Gradient.”

Of course, there are more riffs. There are always more riffs. I can’t wait to see what story those want me to tell. See you at the next one.
