A Future of Promises, A History of Lies

We were promised a future of roads paved with glitter and gold, Instead we were led down paths, barren and littered with holes. (We were) promised a future of cities built with silver and gold, Instead we were housed in squalor riddled with dirt and mould. We were sold a dream and we bought it, They cast their net and they caught us; Ensnared forever in a capitalist nightmare. We were promised a future of riches, of diamonds, pearls and gold, Instead we were paid bare minimum with lumps of stolen coal. (We were) promised a future of hope, of equality and reward, Instead we were bound in shackles, and enslaved forevermore. We were sold a dream and we bought it, They cast their net and they caught us; Ensnared forever in a capitalist nightmare. We compromise for a better life, Forced into mandatory sacrifice. We survive but we barely live, Under the boot of the filthy rich. We’re penalised for a life of graft, No food on the table or clothes on our backs. We make do with what we’ve got, That is not enough and it never was. Abolish government!
