On December 6th, I foolishly decided to try speed-running a Dungeon Synth holiday album, with a focus on new Dungeon Synth (and Comfy Synth) arrangements of traditional songs. I have 3 or 4 finished tracks, a few more in the mixing stage, and a few more in the planning.
Rather than miss the holidays altogether before I could release, I decided to take my time and do the album right. In the meantime, here is just a taste, before Christmas arrives.
O Magnum Mysterium is a plainchant from Christian liturgy, centuries old. There have been many different settings to music, but this one, from Morten Lauridsen, is captivating and I think adapting it from a strong choral arrangement suits the meaty synthesizers that are the staples of Dungeon Synth.
Mannheim Steamroller was one of the constants of holiday listening in my youth, and this track feels to me like it bridges the space between those warm memories and modern Cozy Synth music.
