The Call (Live)
Ruby Rockatansky
Gnawing bite, cosmic spikes, death to all Creating light, eternal night, hear the call Hear the call! Herald infinitude! No escape from entropy Energy feeds Created by, dying light, life began Now we fly, away from night, the stars hunger We laid our memories to rest All for naught, or so it appears To be devoured by light years We killed our gods with circuitry replaced Now none exist to hear us pitifully pray How could we have seen, The end of all time, Before it arrived? How could we have known, Of this expanse? Now, we must all die, Yet, we live! Hear the call! Herald infinitude! No escape from entropy Energy feeds Gnawing bite, cosmic spikes, death to all Creating light, eternal night, hear the call Abandoning the helpless flesh We laid our memories to rest All for naught, or so it appears To be devoured by light years We killed our gods with circuitry replaced Now none exist to hear us pitifully pray How could we have seen, The end of all time, Before it arrived? How could we have known, Of this expanse? Now, we must all die, Yet, we live!

Before the renowned hero known as Taygete joined the cosmic champions in Pleiades Squad, she and a group of fellow superintelligent android girls earned their infamy another way - by showing the galaxy the power and ferocity of technical progressive metal. After releasing merely one album and one follow-up EP, MECHADEATH quickly took the cosmos by storm. The ambitious androids were soon filling arenas and stadiums, full of fans old and young, all eager to experience the unexpected revival of music originating from our long-lost first home of Old Earth.

However, one fateful night on the capital planet of New Ganymede, during their grandest performance yet at the illustrious Starport Stadium, the venue was raided by members of The Authority's compliance unit for spreading art that had been deemed obscene and of grave danger to the "values" he wished to impose upon the galaxy at large.

In the aftermath, despite the compliance unit being successfully driven away by the crowd with help from the band themselves, the members all received warrants for their arrest... or execution. Thus, they sadly split apart and went their separate ways. All official distribution of their music ceased. Owning or sharing any copies was deemed criminal, and just as quickly as MECHADEATH had hit the scene, they were forced to disappear into obscurity.

Now, decades later, after Tay herself was revealed to be a member of the very group that would eventually bring The Authority's dictatorship to an end, an official recording of that legendary performance has been uncovered and made available for the masses at long last. While there is much that must be done before the galaxy can heal, we at Rockatansky Records are proud that finally, after decades of anticipation, we are able to present the performance that ignited a revolution: MECHADEATH - LIVE AT STARPORT STADIUM

This album is a mock live album of an event that takes place within the universe of the Seven Sisters Saga. While much of this music had originally been written with the intention of using it within the Saga proper, I began experimenting with the midi tracks I had already arranged and discovered they sounded really fucking cool when ran through various synthesizers with aggressive, distorted patches. This led to the idea of a progressive metal album made entirely using synthesizers and virtual instruments. While this was fun and heavy enough on its own, I wanted to incorporate some of the immersive sound design and audio drama elements that help make the wider Saga stand out. I have long been a fan of live albums, with Metallica's S&M having a particularly strong influence on me growing up, which led to the bizarre inspiration to make this project into a mock live album, complete with the sounds of a large audience, interplay between the band and crowd, and a climactic raid by the authorities. My only real rule with this experiment was that all of the actual music, including vocals, had to be made using virtual instruments and synthesizers. I attempted to also use a vocoder for the dialogue between songs as well as the crowd hype moments, but frankly, that sounded like shit! So, I pretended to be super cool and attractive android girl playing the biggest show of her life, ran my voice through some flange and a bitcrusher saturator, and there we have it!

As an added bonus, "studio versions" of each track are included with every download. These are simply the base renders without any of the audience or extra reverb that make for an immersive stadium ambiance.

After many months of planning and production, I couldn't be happier with the result of this strange concept. Enjoy. :)
