Before the album, 5 craftspeople from the inner Ampwall circle had been honing their skills for years and entered this endeavor in a blaze of glory, remixing my album, BMK’s “Wood, Wire & Shadows”, also released on Ampwall.
One jazz bassist and 5 electronic and ambient specialists embarked on the journey of re-imagining. This is the result.
Entropy of the Double Bass. Deconstructed and reshaped.

"When I first heard “[Dance Of The] Auburn Lady” by BMK, I immediately heard the soundtrack to a noir film. For this remix, I wanted to take that feeling and make it a theme song to a futuristic pulp-noir series where the detective drives through neon-soaked streets at 2 a.m. and absolutely nothing good is waiting at the other end.

I wanted the track to have a dirty, swaggering groove, so I took the bass and gave it some dirt, dropped in a trashy beat, splashed around some synths, and brought in some 808s for good measure. I also really wanted to preserve and emphasize those layers of double bass throughout the track. They give the remix that smoky, organic character underneath all the electronic chaos."

“This remix ended up in a very different place than I thought it would. I typically write ambient music, and when I first started working on this remix, I intended to turn Nordic Noir into a big atmospheric soundscape. I quickly realized that doing so would dilute BMK's stellar bass performances and fail to capture what makes the original piece so dynamic and memorable.
I pivoted into creating something that was still moody and atmospheric, but with more energy and emphasis on the bass performance. I chose a few of the main basslines and worked them around a beat with minimal melodic additions. You can still hear a little of the drone-focused foundation I started with underneath it all, though the finished track is far from ambient. It was a lot of fun to work with BMK's song, and I hope you enjoy listening to my take on it!”

“For my remix of Nordic Noir, I wasn't very sure where to begin, but then I started recording the ambience of the rain happening here in the west-central part of Scotland where I also started adding the ambience of groups of rowdy people on the bus and such, trying to achieve an authentic ambience to layer and rearrange the track into a new near 8-minute track, where the ideas started to solidify. Blending the sweet incredible jazz track of the great German Björn Martin Klaus with a bit of authentic Scottish atmosphere."
