About Steve Flato

Making experimental and noise music since 2004, Steve Flato is a composer and guitarist that lives in Buffalo, NY. His music encompasses many styles and techniques including microtonal electric guitar, generative process pieces, minimal text-based scores utilizing broken electronics, cut-up musique-concrete, and a piece written for the Spreckels Organ in San Diego, CA (the largest outdoor pipe organ in the world).

He has composed music for films such as the A24 film "It Comes at Night" in collaboration with composer Brian McOmber. He has collaborated and played with many artists including McOmber, Vanessa Rossetto, T.J. Borden (formerly of the Mivos Quartet), Massimo Magee, Derek Rogers, and many more. He's also released records on prominent experimental labels such as Full Spectrum, Kendra Steiner Editions, Tape Drift Records, and Copy For Your Records.

He sporadically publishes a podcast called Signifying Something and has interviewed Keith Rowe and Jon Abbey of Erstwhile Records, Lea Bertucci, Sarah Hennies, Seth Graham of Orange Milk Records, and Christina Carter of Charalambides
