When the September rains came The hours passed me by In long nights waking Dreaming of another life Despite the cold delusions In my calcified heart I could swear I heard your voice Whispering my name Our bond had grown brittle and frail Two straining links on a rusting chain Those whispers had been a warning Of the longest years still to come Dull eyed and world weary I walked down familiar roads In the wake of your absence All the while i was lost in My reveries of our bygone nights Drenched, submerged, never clean I relive bygone days I relive the broken things Pay my penance again & again Wading waters of my previous sins When the September rains came for me I was abandoned, soaked to my bones Like stormswept ships lost in ocean mist Without a way back home
