An Old Statue Reimagined

An Old Statue Reimagined began as a two bar long motif in my score for the sci-fi short Adarnia. It was a brief gesture, almost a passing thought, created with samples and electronics. But the feeling of it stayed with me long after the score was finished.

In 2022, I expanded that motif into a full piece for the soundtrack album, and still, it lingered. I wanted to hear it breathe... to let real players shape its contours, let air and bow and voice soften its edges.

This year I finally returned to it, together with my close collaborators: Özge Ürer (vocals), Herman Ringer (violin/viola), Yiğit Alp Onat (cello/double bass), and Cana Çankaya (trumpet/choir vox), with my piano at the heart. Each of them is a remarkable musicians and artists and deeply important in my life... some I’ve known for decades, from the very beginning of my journey working with other artists in the scene.

We approached it as reconstruction and rediscovery, revealing the humanity behind a piece that began life inside a machine.

The track is reworked by Dov Waterman in a warm, organic electronic language, and epilogue's beautiful drone remix is created by Tomas Nordmark with his deep sonic craftsmanship. Composer producer friends, it was like an extension from our hours long musical discussions. This created the EP "3 Pieces From An Old Statue".

Mastered by Aneek Thapar, whose work I’ve long trusted for shaping the final sound, bringing his signature touch to make everything feel cohesive and beautifully polished.

An Old Statue Reimagined is a quiet resurrection... a statue awakening, remembering, breathing again.
