The Holy Water EP marks a new chapter in Witnesses’ doom metal sound–slowing the pace further, enhancing the atmosphere, and for the first time bringing long-time collaborator Gabbi Coenen into the metal side of the project. Thematically, the EP explores Stoker’s Lucy Westenra and Mina Harker, imagining the characters from different perspectives.

A breathtaking, immersive listening experience, that, despite being 3 tracks, feels like being awash in an endless sea. Guided by haunting, lush vocals by Gabbi Coenen, her voice is tender and personal, while also carrying an otherworldy, enchanting presence thanks to the expert production. The music pushes and pulls, ebbs and flows in oceanic waves. Lurching, pensive, heavy guitars ripple and pulse outward along with crashing explosions of drums. Appropriate space is given to quiet, cinematic moments and acoustic meanderings. A dynamic, deeply emotional release, and easily one of my favorite doom metal releases in many years.
