It [Escape From The Underdark] is the crushing promise of death metal melded with the life-affirming joy of the very best of folk metal distilled into one movement, and I can’t tell you how wonderful it is. It sets up arguably the best closing two minutes to a song I’ve heard this year, and makes the majority of other OSDM-inspired bands look redundant in their lack of ambition and risk-taking.
This is a mighty effort. The "I have seen war in all its forms..." soliloquy, which launches directly into deliciously pulverizing riffage, provides a potent hit straight to the headbang receptors from the onset of "Armored Spearhead (Hellhammer,)" and the fun simply doesn't stop 'til the EP is over. It's a highly enjoyable journey, and I would kill for a full album of the stuff. Besides standing tall on its own impressive merits, Grinding Advance speaks of a very promising future.
Flourishes of experimentation surface throughout the EP, as do quite a few forays into more d-beat/Swedish death metal areas. Essentially, this isn’t your run of the mill X-worship band that just makes you want to go and listen to whoever they’re worshipping. This is something new, something to get excited about.
