Forged in sadness and honed in pain, Cattle Hammer was brought to life in the spring of 2023 by Duncan Wilkins as a studio based solo project. Combining nihilistic, black metal-inspired harshness with an already dangerously negative blend of sludge, doom and drone, Wilkins swiftly composed nearly an hour of material in a matter of weeks.
From serving time through the second wave of UK post-Iron Monkey sludge with Mistress, to spending almost a decade touring as live bassist for UKBM spearheads Anaal Nathrakh, whilst fermenting his vocal chords with the likes of Fukpig amongst others, Wilkins had the pedigree, but knew he couldn’t take to the stage on that alone.
Gathering a murderers row of old and new talent from the Birmingham scene, including ex Mistress conspirator Dirty von Donovan amongst others, rehearsals progressed swiftly, productively, and intensely, to the point where the band are now gig-ready, with Duncan set to take to the stage playing guitar for the first time since the legendary final Mistress show at Damnation festival 2009.
Meanwhile, the first three recorded tracks were released digitally in May 2024, followed by the ‘Gloom Sower’ and ‘Rotting’ singles, the latter of which was described as an "eleven minute behemoth' by Total Rock Radio.
Plans are afoot for the debut album, 'Nothing Helps' to be recorded with the full band, and with the forthcoming debut live shows, Cattle Hammer are about to bludgeon all comers in a haze of volume, heaviness and negativity.
